Raul Cuero Interview

I enjoyed listening to Dr. Cuero's perspectives from this interview. It was interesting how he discussed your ability to change society's perception of you by acting against what is expected. If you have a universal outlook you can move past prejudices and societal pressures put upon you to transcend what is the norm. You can do this by doing things nobody thinks you are capable of. I disagree with his definition of creativity because I think the meaning of being creative is being able to come up with unique ideas that go against what is common and has been done before. However, the doctor's definition does hold truth in the way that being a good observer of nature helps you form and support your new ideas and creations, by perhaps seeing things in a different light than others. I also disagree with Cuero when he states that children these days are at a disadvantage because of technology. I think technology can be a great tool in creativity and just because an individual might be away from nature doesn't mean they aren't observing, interacting, and manipulating the world and tools in front of them. I would have to say I agree that children these days are sheltered in face to face communication, with things like texting reducing their ability to hold conversation in real life. I agree with him that the base structure of American education is solid, and that doing is a much better way of learning than reading. I have always been this way, as I find it much easier to learn through trial and error rather than hypothetical thinking. The most valuable lesson I took from this interview comes in the form of a quote from Cuero. He stated, "never let the result of the process motivate you." I like this quote because it means that you have to be motivated by the act of creating and not the act of completing a project or result. The only way to better your creativity is to continually create and come up with ideas that further your motivation for doing.

  1. I enjoyed reading your thoughts on Dr Cuero's messages. I think you chose a great quote, "never let the result of the process motivate you." I also agree that you need to continually create in order to become more and more inventive
