Music
The first genre I want to highlight is psychedelic rock. This style of music is one of my favorites because of the unique ways that they used sound. I like music that can take a sound that maybe I haven't heard before and turns it into a beautiful melody. The Beatles were especially notable in this genre, because of the way they pioneered innovative sound. A perfect album that represents this would be Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, especially the song "Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds". This song uses a lot of psychedelic instruments and tones to mesmerize the listener. To someone today, this kind of music might not seem that innovative but that’s because the Beatles were inspirations for a ton of artists in today's music.
The second genre I will highlight is Disco. This style was popular because of its catchy rhythms and drum patterns. Michael Jackson is a great example, as he is one of the most famous performers of all time. "Rock with You" is one of his most famous Disco songs. You can tell it is disco because of the way the drums swing with the music. A lot of disco used electric sounds, using instruments like synthesizers.
The third genre I could talk about is punk rock. This type of music is a lot different than the last one, as Punk rock had a totally different vibe than disco. This genre of music allowed the performers to express their raw emotions to the tune of their rock music. A good example is "Should I Stay or Should I go" by The Clash. This song is a perfect example of the heavy, gritty guitar riffs and pounding beat that punk rock tends to have.
The fourth genre is New Wave. This genre is almost a sibling to punk rock, as it adheres to the same principles; anybody can make music. One example I could think of is the song "I Ran (So Far Away)" by A Flock of Seagulls. This song is very catchy and displays a great use of synthesizers combined with a nice guitar melody.
The fifth and final genre I will highlight is Rock music. This is one of the most famous genres of music, as many people are in love with the sounds that have been produced over the years. A really good example is Elton John, as he has been making music for a very long time. My favorite song that he has made is "Benny and The Jets", as this song has a very creative piano melody that gets stuck in my head all the time.
